Balanced control: First runs, adaptable builds and players learning parry timing.

The safest all-round class for learning encounters without giving up useful offense. It can use a shield. The main trade-off is it does not specialize in speed, stagger, area coverage or charged burst as strongly as the other classes.

How the Sword class plays

Sword supports regular attacks, guarding and parries. A shield can be removed for a faster but less forgiving setup. Its practical defensive plan is straightforward: Block uncertain strings, then move toward timed parries as the pattern becomes familiar.

It does not specialize in speed, stagger, area coverage or charged burst as strongly as the other classes. That does not make the class weak; it defines the problem the rest of the build must solve. Evaluate the class through repeatable openings, SP and Stamina management, and the defensive response you can perform under pressure.

Choose it when
  • You need one answer for unfamiliar quests.
  • A shield helps you learn a boss before committing to parries.
  • You want the largest Demo Sword Skill pool.
Reconsider it when
  • You already know the encounter and want a more specialized damage rhythm.
  • Fast chains, heavy stagger or wide group control is the main goal.

A repeatable Sword combat loop

Practical sequenceSword encounter loop
  1. 01

Guard the first unfamiliar attack string instead of guessing the parry.

  2. 02

Use normal attacks while the enemy is stable and keep Stamina available.

  3. 03

Convert a clear recovery window with one short Sword Skill.

  4. 04

Use Switch Mode or a longer punish only after the pattern is confirmed.

This sequence is a starting discipline, not a fixed combo. Enemy behavior, difficulty, partner choice and equipped skills can change the right timing. Run it against a familiar encounter first so only the weapon decision changes.

Sword build checks

  • Keep the shield equipped while learning a route.
  • Carry one short-commitment skill and one stronger punish.
  • Compare attribute scaling before spending Growth Points.
  • Test an enhanced target before consuming useful EX-Mod donors.

Base ATK, upgrade costs, drop locations and exact skill multipliers are not present in the current public extraction. Check those values in the running game instead of treating a weapon's lore description as a combat effect.

Sword FAQ

Can this class use a shield?

Yes. Sword and Shield supports a shield, which gives the class a defensive fallback while learning an encounter.

Is Sword the best weapon?

No class is best for every player and encounter. Sword is strongest as a fit when your goal is first runs, adaptable builds and players learning parry timing. Use the weapon fit finder to compare that goal with the other five classes.

Which individual Sword weapon should I use?

Start with the weapon you can enhance and whose scaling and EX-Mods support the stats you already use. The Demo descriptions above identify records and lore, but they are not a substitute for current in-game ATK, upgrade level or effect values.

Evidence boundary: class mechanics are based on official guides. Weapon names, descriptions and skill relationships are versioned to Steam demo build 23442858. The combat loop and build checks are editorial recommendations.
